Arrests Made in Attempted Sexual Exploitation of a Minor

Two men were arrested after allegedly attempting to pay for sex acts with a minor, according to the Hartford Police Department.

Operation Conducted to Combat Child Exploitation

The Special Investigations Division, in collaboration with the FBI Crimes Against Children/Human Trafficking Task Force, carried out a child exploitation deterrence operation resulting in the apprehension of the suspects. The operation aimed to address the issue of child exploitation and aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations.

Suspects and Charges

The two suspects involved in the case have been identified as Christopher Cheong, 30, residing on Daly Avenue in New Britain, and Jeffrey Cunningham, 50, residing on Quaker Lane in West Hartford. On Thursday, they responded to a location in Hartford with the intention of engaging in sexual acts with a child under the age of 16.

Cheong and Cunningham have been charged with the following offenses:

  1. Criminal attempt illegal sexual contact with a minor under 16
  2. Attempted second-degree sexual assault
  3. Criminal attempt commercial sexual abuse of a minor

Both suspects have been assigned a bond of $500,000.
