The Gilbert Adult Learning Program Receives “Excelling Program of the Year” Award

Gilbert Adult Learning Program

The Gilbert Adult Learning Program from Gilbert Public Schools has been recognized as the “Excelling Program of the Year for Overall Adult Education Services” by the Arizona Department of Education for the second consecutive year.

Introduction

The Gilbert Adult Learning Program offers various educational services to adults, with a strong focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program aims to prepare adults for the GED exams and provide further enrichment opportunities.

Program Offerings

  • GED and Adult Basic/Secondary Education
  • English Language Acquisition for Adults

GED and Adult Basic Education/Adult Secondary Education

The GED and Adult Basic Education/Adult Secondary Education classes are designed to help students prepare for the GED exam or enhance their knowledge in the following subjects:

  • Language Arts (Reading & Writing)
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • College and Career Readiness

The classes in this program cater to the diverse educational needs of adult learners. They provide small class instruction in all four test areas and offer access to computer software, textbooks, and worksheets to support the students’ study plans.

Upon entering the program, students undergo standardized assessments in reading, writing, and math to determine their lesson path. Assignments are then tailored based on the assessment results.

Registration is required before enrolling in a GED class. To accommodate the schedules of adult students, classes are offered in the morning and evening.

English for Speakers of Other Languages

The English for Speakers of Other Languages classes aim to provide instruction for individuals who wish to learn or improve their English language proficiency for employment or further education opportunities. The curriculum covers reading, writing, speaking, listening skills, and computer literacy.

Additionally, the program incorporates college and career exploration, as well as civics education, into the curriculum.

Students must be at least 16 years old and have withdrawn from high school to enroll in these classes. Minors need to register with a parent or legal guardian, and all students must complete the registration process before starting a class.

Furthermore, students must be able to declare their lawful presence in the United States and provide a valid photo ID. Regular attendance is mandatory for all students.
