Dedicated cell to combat drug abuse among youth

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The city police have established a specialized anti-narcotic drugs cell to curb the rising cases of substance abuse among youths by restricting the circulation of illegal drugs within the city limits.

The cell, spearheaded by an inspector-rank officer, aims at addressing the issue effectively. The city police have introduced a dedicated helpline (+91-9529019061) to enable citizens provide relevant tips discreetly to the authorities.

The initiative has been rolled out by Commissioner of Police Pravin Pawar after reviewing the crime scene in the city and interacting with citizens. After the review, Pawar sensed the need for a dedicated cell to check the menace.

The police chief has appealed to the citizens to join hands with the police in fighting against drug and substance abuse.

Inspector Geeta Bagwade has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the cell, which will directly report to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Prashant Swami and the Commissioner of Police.

Inspector Bagwade told TOI the cell had received specific instructions from the police commissioner to not only bust the networks of suppliers and peddlers, but also reach out to the manufacturers of illegal substances and drugs.
