Kuala Lumpur Public Transportation Ridership Increases by 11% in July
The latest data from the Transport Ministry reveals that public transportation ridership in the Klang Valley has seen a significant increase of 11% in July.
Ridership Numbers for Buses and Rail Services
The overall ridership numbers for buses and rail services have risen steadily by 11.8% and 10.8% respectively last month, reflecting a growing reliance on public transport.
Improvements in Rail Services
Operator Prasarana Malaysia Bhd stated that with the addition of new trains, there has been a significant rise in the number of rail users and improved passenger waiting time. The Kelana Jaya Line, for example, is now operating with 56 trains with a frequency of three minutes. In 2022, the line was operating 41 trains with a frequency of 4.1 minutes during peak hours.
Increase in Passenger Numbers for LRT and MRT Lines
The Ampang and Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines have experienced a notable increase in passenger numbers. In July, the Kelana Jaya Line saw a spike of 15.3% and the Ampang Line saw an increase of 8.3%. The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Kajang and Putrajaya lines have also contributed to the overall upward trend, with the Kajang line experiencing an 11.1% increase in ridership and the Putrajaya line climbing by 15.7% in July.
Improved Services for Kajang Line
Prasarana mentioned that the Kajang Line now operates with 39 trains with a frequency of four minutes. In 2022, the line was operating 28 trains with a frequency of 5.6 minutes during peak hours.
Increase in Passengers for KTM Komuter and Monorail
The KTM Komuter and monorail services are also seeing an increase in passengers, with a 3.6% and 4.4% rise respectively. This indicates a broader shift towards public transportation.
