Death Investigation After Crash on the 405 Freeway

A death investigation is underway after a baby was killed and another child injured in a crash on the 405 Freeway in Culver City Monday morning.

The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Centinela Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers arrived to find two girls at the scene, one of which was an infant around 5 or 6 months old and the other between 7 and 9 years old, on the right shoulder of the freeway.

The baby died at the scene and the girl was hospitalized with minor injuries, CHP officers said.

Witnesses who called 911 told officers that they saw two children on the freeway that had been hit by a car. They’re still unsure why the children were there in the first place.

Some people reported seeing a black sedan in the area shortly before the crash.

“At the moment, it’s unknown how those minors arrived onto the freeway,” said CHP Officer Diaz. “This is why we’re requesting the public’s assistance.”

A SigAlert was issued after two lanes were blocked while authorities with the CHP investigated the scene. All lanes reopened around 9 a.m.

No other information was available about the incident
