The Industrial Art of Serjik Leon

Exhibit at Mad Hatter Gallery

Bulletin report

The Mad Hatter Gallery has announced an upcoming exhibit featuring the industrial art of Serjik Leon. Titled “Serjirism – The Industrial Art of Serjik Leon,” the exhibit will be on view from October 25 to November 26. An opening reception will be held at 5 p.m. on November 1.

This exhibition marks the first time the El Paso- and Ciudad Juárez-based artist will showcase his work in Las Cruces.

Serjik Leon, concerned about the issue of industrial waste, has created an art practice called “Serjirism.” This practice focuses on utilizing manufacturing castoffs, primarily from El Paso and Juarez, to create light boxes. These light boxes are illuminated by LED lights and incorporate Surface-mount technology. Some of the light boxes are sound-reactive, adding an interactive element to the artwork.

The Mad Hatter Gallery is located at 221 N. Main St., Suite C, in Las Cruces. The gallery’s regular hours are as follows:

  • Wednesday-Friday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The gallery also has extended hours on First Fridays and for other events.
