Cleveland City Council Introduces Legislation to Address Gender and Racial Pay Gaps
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cleveland City Council members are introducing new legislation Monday to combat gender and racial pay gaps.
“This legislation is a crucial step towards a more equitable Cleveland,” said Councilwoman Jasmin Santana (Ward 14).

The introduced legislation aligns with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all (SDG 8).
- Reduce inequality within and among countries (SDG 10).
- Ensure gender equality and empower all women and girls (SDG 5).
Legislation Details
- Ensure equal pay for equal work regardless of gender or race at businesses that employ 15 or more people within the city of Cleveland.
- Increase pay transparency.
- Establish a city-wide task force to close pay gaps.
City council members will hold a news conference Monday afternoon and then introduce the legislation at their regularly scheduled meeting Monday evening.
