Air Quality Monitoring System to be Installed in St. Rose

ST. ROSE, La. (WGNO) — A new air quality monitoring system is coming to St. Rose.

According to a news release, IMTT is partnering with the Louisiana Action Environmental Network to build four new “neighborhood-based” air quality monitors in St. Rose, where IMTT’s main storage facility is located.

IMTT officials said the new system is part of the Louisiana Community Air Monitoring Network project that plans to place sensors in areas between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

IMTT leaders said sensors are expected to collect data that will be used to help residents in the area of the systems gain a better understanding of the environment and how it affects quality of life.

IMTT officials said the sensors will be solar-powered and use wind speed and direction to find sources of “detected airborne compounds.”

They said Eagle Environmental Services will install and operate the new sensors.

“LEAN plans to use these devices to monitor for airborne compounds that local residents have the most questions about,” said LEAN Co-Founder and Executive Director MaryLee Orr.
