Successful Rescue Operation Targets Child and Adolescent Labor in South West Garo Hills

As part of the Pan India Rescue and Rehabilitation campaign targeting child and adolescent labor, the District Task Force on Child Labour carried out a successful rescue operation in various locations under the Zikzak Block of South West Garo Hills on Wednesday.

The operation, strategically carried out in various locations under Zikzak Block, witnessed the Task Force’s unwavering commitment to combating child labor. During the operation, members of the Task Force intercepted instances of child labor, demonstrating the collective effort to ensure the well-being and future prospects of these young individuals, marking a crucial step towards eradicating this social menace.

Efforts by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), mandated to oversee the implementation of key legislations including the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act 2009, and the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, has been actively involved in activities aimed at eliminating child and adolescent labor. This includes rescue operations, programmes, research, and fact-finding studies.

Pan-India Rescue Campaign

To intensify these efforts, the NCPCR will be organising a month-long rescue campaign from December 20 to 10 across the nation. This pan-India initiative will specifically target child and adolescent laborers in various settings such as factories, dhabas, industries, hotels, shops, mines, brick kilns, and construction sites.

Comprehensive Approach for Rehabilitation

The focus of the campaign extends beyond rescue operations, with a commitment to ensuring the rehabilitation of the rescued children in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986. This comprehensive approach seeks not only to rescue children from exploitative labor but also to provide them with the necessary support for a brighter future.
