North Dakota Receives $7.5 Million to Enhance Security Measures
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – North Dakota has been granted over $7.5 million by the federal government to prevent and protect against terrorist attacks.
Allocation of Funds
The funds will be distributed to various entities including nonprofits, schools, and law enforcement agencies. The objective is to utilize the funds for enhancing physical security measures, such as upgrading surveillance cameras, implementing card access systems, and improving election security. Additionally, resources will be allocated for conducting security and safety exercises, including active shooter drills.
Significance of North Dakota’s Security
North Dakota plays a crucial role in national security due to its possession of two out of the three arms of the nuclear triad. Furthermore, the state’s vital energy and agriculture sectors make it a potential target for terrorists aiming to impact the United States. Therefore, it is imperative to prioritize security measures in the region, as emphasized by Darin Hanson, the Homeland Security Director for North Dakota.
Protection of the Northern Border
A portion of the grant will also be allocated towards implementing measures to safeguard the northern border of North Dakota.
