Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

  1. Goal 15: Life on Land – Planting trees contributes to the preservation and restoration of forests, which is essential for maintaining biodiversity and combating climate change.
  2. Goal 13: Climate Action – Trees play a crucial role in absorbing carbon dioxide and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.
  3. Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – Planting trees in urban areas improves air quality, provides shade, and enhances the overall livability of cities.

Tactics for Tree Planting

  • Choose the right tree species for your specific location and soil conditions to ensure optimal growth and survival.
  • Prepare the planting site by removing any weeds or grass and loosening the soil to promote root development.
  • Handle tree seedlings with care, avoiding damage to the roots or stems.
  • Plant the trees at the correct depth, making sure the root collar is level with or slightly above the soil surface.
  • Water the newly planted trees regularly, especially during dry periods, to help establish their root systems.

SDGs, Targets, and Indicators

SDGs Targets Indicators
SDG 15: Life on Land 15.2: By 2020, promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, halt deforestation, restore degraded forests, and substantially increase afforestation and reforestation globally The article discusses the importance of planting trees for future north woods forests, which aligns with the target of increasing afforestation and reforestation globally.
SDG 13: Climate Action 13.2: Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies, and planning The article emphasizes the need to make preparations and plans to plant trees for the future, which is a climate change measure to mitigate its impacts.
SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation 6.6: By 2020, protect and restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers, and lakes The article mentions the importance of planting trees for the health of north woods forests, which contribute to protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems.
