Global hepatitis report 2024: action for access in low- and middle-income countries

Overview

This report is the first consolidated report by the World Health Organization (WHO) on viral hepatitis epidemiology, service coverage, and product access. It aims to provide improved data for action. The report presents the latest estimates on the disease burden and the coverage of essential viral hepatitis services from 187 countries worldwide.

The report also highlights the progress made since 2019 in improving access to health products for both hepatitis B and C in low- and middle-income countries. It includes information from 38 countries, which account for nearly 80% of global viral hepatitis infections and deaths.

In addition, the report offers a regional perspective, analyzing the barriers and opportunities for countries in each of the 6 WHO regions to expand access to health products for viral hepatitis. It provides actionable recommendations for countries and stakeholders to accelerate the scaling up of effective viral hepatitis interventions within a public health approach.
