Innovative Comedy Show Raises Awareness about Air Pollution in Delhi
In a unique event held at the Sri Ram Centre for Performing Arts in New Delhi, 20 comedians came together to create awareness about the persistent issue of air pollution in the city.
The show, hosted by comedian Rahul Dua, aimed to deliver a satirical commentary on the air we breathe while keeping the audience entertained with a dose of laughter.

Brikesh Singh, Chief of Communications & Engagement with Asar – a Bengaluru-based development startup that works on environmental issues including air pollution, incubated the idea of blending stand-up comedy with air quality. He emphasized that the first step to fixing any problem is to get everyone to acknowledge it.
“The idea was to galvanize public action and awareness about air pollution, moving beyond traditional jargon-filled discussions to engage a wider audience to mainstream the discourse on environmental issues through the universally accessible language of humour. Comedians have the remarkable ability to address sensitive issues with wit, satire, and insight,” said Brikesh.
Each comedian was given two rounds of 60 seconds to make the audience laugh while highlighting the severity of the situation.

Delhi’s Air Pollution Crisis
Delhi experienced one of the worst bouts of air pollution in December 2023, which was substantially worse in terms of air quality compared to previous years. It deviated from the average of the last five years. On December 1, 2023, the average AQI (from 2018 to 2022) was 332, significantly lower than 372 in 2023. This trend continued throughout the month, consistently surpassing the corresponding five-year averages.
Since then, while the pollution levels have come down, the annual issue persists with Delhi being one of the worst in the world when it comes to air quality index.
