A CELEBRATION of education and diversity at Coleg Cambria Yale

Introduction

The Culture Collective, a student-led group at Coleg Cambria Yale in Wrexham, has been successfully uniting communities across north east Wales. Launched last year, the group organizes events and activities that celebrate education and diversity.

Arts, Dance, Music, Literature, Poetry, and Fashion Showcase

The latest event organized by the Culture Collective was a showcase of arts, dance, music, literature, poetry, and fashion. The event took place at the college’s Ial Restaurant and was supported by funding from the Welsh Government’s Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan. The showcase featured ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners.

Tea-Tasting Session and Performances

More than 100 people attended the showcase and were treated to a tea-tasting session. The session offered a selection of flavors from various countries, including Japan and Algeria. The attendees also enjoyed a performance by Joseph George, a Big Ideas Wales Role Model with Nigerian tribal roots. Joseph performed traditional songs while dressed in traditional attire. Additionally, Michal Borkowski, a Music student, played classic Hungarian instruments.

Positive Response and Impact

Judith Alexander, the Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Coordinator, and Tim Feak, the Lead Chaplain, have been leading the Culture Collective program. They are thrilled with the positive response and impact it has had so far. Judith emphasized that showcasing the cultural diversity, traditions, and interests of the learners fosters respect and widens understanding of differences and commonalities. Tim expressed his inspiration and admiration for the skills, passion, and diversity displayed by the college students.
