Man Pleads Guilty to Recording Sexual Abuse of Minor
DUNKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) – On Wednesday, November 22, a man named Matthew A. Prewett, 43, from Kennett, admitted to recording his sexual abuse of a young teenage girl.
Background
Matthew A. Prewett pleaded guilty to a felony charge of sexual exploitation of a minor, as confirmed by the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri Sayler Fleming. The incident took place in April 2022.
Discovery and Arrest
The Kennett Police Department received a notification on May 3 that the victim was in a St. Louis hospital for a sexual assault examination. The victim’s mother had discovered “sexually suggestive” text messages from Prewett on her daughter’s phone.
Prewett was subsequently arrested on May 4 during a traffic stop in Dunklin County.
Additional Evidence
During the investigation, it was uncovered that Prewett had also recorded other children in the shower.
Sentencing and Prosecution
Prewett is scheduled to be sentenced on February 21, 2024. Prosecutors have agreed to recommend a 20-year prison sentence.

The case was investigated by the Kennett Police Department and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Hunter is prosecuting the case.
