Get the Lead Out – Water Service Line Inventory Survey

Introduction

Calvert City, Kentucky – As stewards of our community’s well-being, Calvert City wants to emphasize the critical importance of an upcoming initiative: Get the Lead Out – Water Service Line Inventory Survey. Calvert City residents’ participation in this survey is pivotal to ensuring the safety and quality of our drinking water.

The Importance of the Survey

The water that flows into our homes is a lifeline, and its quality is non-negotiable. To guarantee that your water is safe for consumption, we must identify and document the types of service lines that deliver it to your property. This information enables us to assess the presence of lead or other potentially contaminating materials in these lines. The data we collect will guide our efforts to protect our water supply from harmful substances and maintain the high standards of water quality that our community deserves.

Historical Context

Historically, lead pipes were commonly used in water distribution systems due to their durability and malleability. However, their usage for water lines ceased many decades ago. The possibility that your home has lead service lines is highly unlikely, but the city needs documentation that they do not exist in our system. Your participation will enable us to create a comprehensive inventory of our water lines and save our employees time by not having to go door-to-door to request information.

The survey is available online and in print. Printed copies are available at Calvert City Hall. Please mail, hand deliver, or complete the online survey prior to January 2, 2024. Those completed prior to January 2 will receive a one-time $5 credit on their monthly water bill.
