Report: Violation of Child Labor Laws in Pennsylvania McDonald’s Locations

The Department of Labor has reported that five McDonald’s locations in Pennsylvania, including those in Brookville and St. Marys, have violated child labor laws.

Details of the Violation

The operator of these five locations, Endor Inc., owned by Paul and Meghan Sweeney, employed 34 children aged 14 and 15 to work longer hours and later shifts than allowed by child labor laws.

Response from Pennsylvania McDonald’s Franchisee

Meghan Sweeney, a franchisee of Pennsylvania McDonald’s, stated, “The wellbeing of our people is paramount to our organization, and as local business owners, we are committed to providing a safe working environment for all of our employees.” She further added, “After becoming aware of these violations, we have implemented a number of strategies to help avoid such issues in the future, including regular time audits, a revised scheduling process, and mandatory child labor law training for managers.”

Civil Penalties

Endor Inc. has paid nearly $27,000 in civil penalties to the Department of Labor as a consequence of the violation.
