House Republicans call for better support of U.S. biofuel exports
Two Republicans in the U.S. House are urging the Biden administration to take greater action to boost U.S. biofuel exports.
Randy Feenstra of Iowa tells Brownfield sustainable aviation fuel could be a game changer for commodity markets.
“But, we’ve also got to push that export market. Meaning that we need other countries to buy SAF. And that’s what we’re urging the administration to pursue, to aggressively create strategies to do this.”
Feenstra and Illinois Republican Darin LaHood recently sent letters calling on the administration to develop new markets for biofuels and to work toward a full repeal of Brazil’s 18 percent tariff on American ethanol.
“And these tariffs are also incentivized by this new U.S. renewable fuel standard, the newly created B40, which they can take part of. So there’s an extreme disadvantage that we have right now over Brazil ethanol.”
LaHood says Brazil’s reimposed ethanol tariffs threaten Midwest farmers, producers, and local economies.
