Accessibility for All: Mobility Mania’s Mission

Introduction

Ever since its inception in 2014, the non-profit organization Mobility Mania has been dedicated to promoting “Accessibility for All” in Itasca County. Their mission continues today as they strive to improve accessibility and transportation options for people with disabilities. Recently, Mobility Mania was awarded the Essentia Health Community Engagement Grant, which will be used to provide wheelchair users with transportation options during evenings and weekends when public transportation is not available.

The Goal

The goal of this program is to enable people in wheelchairs to participate in community, social, and family engagements. By providing accessible and affordable transportation, Mobility Mania aims to reduce the isolation and disconnectedness experienced by many wheelchair users due to limited transportation options.

The Sustainable Development Goals

  1. Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being – By improving transportation options for people with disabilities, Mobility Mania contributes to promoting good health and well-being among this population.
  2. Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities – Mobility Mania’s efforts aim to reduce inequalities by ensuring equal access to transportation for people with disabilities.
  3. Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – By advocating for accessible transportation, Mobility Mania contributes to creating sustainable and inclusive communities.
  4. Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals – The collaboration between Mobility Mania and Essentia Health demonstrates the importance of partnerships in achieving the SDGs.
