NEWARK – Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey will lead a nine-day economic mission to East Asia in October, with visits to Japan and South Korea. This mission aims to deepen investment and trading relationships between New Jersey and these countries. The announcement was made during an economic forum by Governor Murphy and Tom Bracken, the CEO of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce. New Jersey is home to a significant Asian American population, with nearly one million Asian American residents, including over 100,000 Korean Americans.

The activities and schedule of Governor Murphy during the mission will include meetings with companies, executives, trade organizations, government officials, higher education leaders, startup incubators, and other key commercial and economic partners. The mission will focus on key industry sectors such as infrastructure, clean energy, financial services, life sciences, technology, logistics, manufacturing, and food and beverage. The economic relationships between New Jersey and Japan, as well as New Jersey and South Korea, generate more than $13 billion in annual shared economic activity.

The mission will consist of a diverse delegation of 30 to 40 members, including business leaders, university representatives, and elected officials. It will take place from Saturday, October 14 to Sunday, October 22, 2023.
