Port St. Lucie Man Sentenced for Child Sexual Abuse Material

A 33-year-old man from Port St. Lucie has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, followed by 15 years of supervised release, for the distribution and receipt of child sexual abuse material, according to an announcement by the U.S. Department of Justice on Friday.

Anthony James Howe, the convicted individual, was sentenced on Thursday by U.S. District Court Judge Jose E. Martinez in Miami after pleading guilty in March.

In March 2022, agents from Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) discovered that Howe had been using social media applications and chatrooms to engage in the trading of materials with other users. Some of the images and videos traded by Howe depicted sexual abuse activities involving children as young as toddlers, as stated by prosecutors.

Furthermore, it was revealed that Howe had claimed to have installed a hidden camera in a minor child’s bedroom.

HSI agents executed a search warrant at Howe’s residence, where he confessed to using social media platforms for sending and receiving the illicit material.

This case was brought forward as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat the escalating epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
