Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month

Community members, first responders and members of the Child Protection Center of Ross County commemorated Child Abuse Prevention Month with a display at the entrance of Yoctangee Park.

To raise awareness about Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Child Protection Center of Ross County organized a display at the entrance of Yoctangee Park. The display consisted of 1,954 pinwheels and ribbons, each representing a report of child abuse in Ross County from 2023. The event was attended by community members, first responders, and elected officials.

Recognition and Support

During the event, Rhiannon Gill, Executive Director at the Child Protection Center of Ross County, expressed gratitude towards the first responders and detectives for their efforts in protecting the children of Ross County. The Ross County Commissioners office and Chillicothe Mayor’s office also presented proclamations declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Ross County and Chillicothe.

Connie, a grandmother and adoptive mother, shared her personal experience with the Child Protection Center. She spoke about how the center provided support and resources for her and her child, Isabella, who had experienced physical abuse and neglect. Connie expressed her gratitude towards the center for helping Isabella thrive and encouraged attendees to use their voices to support the children of Ross County.

Taking Action

Connie emphasized that child abuse should not be ignored and called for collective action to protect the children in the community. She reminded everyone that the pinwheels and ribbons represented real children who need assistance and support.
