Two men from New South Wales (NSW), including a former childcare worker, have been sentenced for hundreds of child abuse offences, which the police have described as “some of the most evil crimes imaginable”. The arrests were made in June 2020 as part of a major operation led by the Australian Federal Police (AFP). The two men pleaded guilty in 2022 to a total of 354 child abuse offences involving 30 victims.
The older man, aged 30, was convicted of 248 offences and has been sentenced to a maximum of 37 years in prison, with a non-parole period of 26 years. The younger co-offender, aged 25, was convicted of 106 offences and has been sentenced to a maximum of 26 years, with a non-parole period of 16 years and nine months. Both men committed more than 30 counts of sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10.
These two individuals were among the 25 people charged across the country as part of the AFP operation. The operation was initiated following a tip-off from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children in the US.

“Truly some of the worst offending we have ever seen”
AFP Commander Kate Ferry stated that the investigation, known as Operation Arkstone, began with “one small piece of information.” She further added, “What the AFP and its domestic and international law enforcement partners uncovered in the weeks and months that followed was truly some of the worst offending we have ever seen.” Commander Ferry emphasized that the criminal behavior of these two men represents the systemic sexual abuse of children over many years and across different locations, by individuals who were entrusted with significant responsibility.
Commander Ferry also highlighted that some of those arrested were meant to protect children but instead used their positions to commit heinous crimes. She stated, “Instead, they used their position to commit some of the most evil crimes imaginable.”
The AFP revealed that the investigation uncovered a “digital trail” that led to the identification and rescue of 56 child victims.
