United to offset carbon emissions during Tour 2023 Man Utd
Manchester United’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Initiatives
Carbon Offsets for Renewable Energy
The carbon offsets purchased by Manchester United will be utilized within The Crow Lake Wind project, located east of Chamberlain, South Dakota. This project consists of 108 turbines that supply renewable energy to 129,000 homes, offsetting approximately 432,000 tonnes of CO2e per year.
Retrospective Carbon Emission Compensation
In addition to the club’s efforts to limit its environmental impact, Manchester United will also retrospectively compensate for carbon emissions generated from travel during the 2022/23 domestic season. Through a collaboration with Trees4Travel, the club will plant 1,250 trees. Each tree is backed up with United Nations CER renewable energy project carbon credits.
Supporting Reforestation Projects
Manchester United has compensated 205 tonnes of CO2e with the UN renewable energy carbon credits through Trees4Travel. Furthermore, the club is simultaneously supporting reforestation projects in developing countries, specifically in Kenya. These projects aim to restore ecosystems, preserve biodiversity, and provide support to local communities.
