Women’s internationals: Goals, debuts and Olympic progression

The Road to Paris: Canada Secures Olympic Title Defense

Canada successfully defended their Olympic title in Paris next year after winning their two-legged play-off against Jamaica. The Canucks had a 2-0 lead from the first leg in Kingston. Despite falling behind to a brilliant goal from former Chelsea player Drew Spence, Canada managed to level the score before half-time through Cleo Lacasse and completed the turnaround shortly after the restart with a goal from Jordyn Huitema. Chelsea Women’s players Jessie Fleming, Kadeisha Buchanan, and Ashley Lawrence all played the full 90 minutes in this historic victory for Canada Women’s football.

USA Debut for Mia Fishel

Mia Fishel, our new signing, made her debut for the USA national team in a friendly match against South Africa. Fishel came on as a substitute for Alex Morgan with 25 minutes remaining in the game, which the USA was already leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Trinity Rodman and Emily Sonnett. This match also marked the farewell of Megan Rapinoe, who made her 203rd and final appearance for the USA national team. Congratulations on your debut, Mia!

Sweden’s Victory Against Italy

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd scored the winning goal for Sweden in their hard-fought 1-0 victory against Italy. Rytting Kaneryd found the net with a deflected left-footed effort from close range, securing Sweden’s first Nations League points. Zecira Musovic was an unused substitute in this match, while Eve Perisset played for an hour in France’s 1-0 win over Austria. England, on the other hand, suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Netherlands in their UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign. Millie Bright and Jess Carter played the full 90 minutes in defense for England, with Lauren James coming off the bench in the closing stages. Hannah Hampton and Niamh Charles were unused substitutes. Sjoeke Nusken played the final 20 minutes of Germany’s 4-0 home win over Iceland, while Ann-Katrin Berger was an unused substitute. Maren Mjelde and Guro Reiten started for Norway in their 3-2 loss against Portugal.

Serbia’s Dominant Performance

Jelena Cankovic and Serbia had a successful day as they defeated Greece 4-0. Miljana Ivanovic and Jovana Damnjanovic scored braces, with Cankovic assisting Damnjanovic’s second goal. Serbia now has six points out of six available in Group B3. Meanwhile, Wales suffered a heavy defeat against Denmark, with Sophie Ingle captaining the Welsh team but unable to prevent the Danes from winning. Former Chelsea player Pernille Harder scored a hat-trick in Denmark’s victory.
