Zeledith Blakely promoted to dean of adult education at Guilford Technical Community College
JAMESTOWN, N.C. (August 23, 2023) –
Zeledith Blakely, who has served as Guilford Technical Community College’s associate dean of adult education for the past seven years, has been promoted to dean of adult education.
In her new role, Blakely is responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation, and management of assigned instructional programs, services, budget, and department employees. She provides guidance in curriculum, academic assessment, strategic planning, and budgeting for the department.
“GTCC is very fortunate to have someone with Zeledith’s level of experience in adult education leading our team,” said Claire Ricci, associate vice president of workforce and continuing education for GTCC. “Ms. Blakely made significant contributions to our department as associate dean for seven years which gives me great confidence in her ability to lead this area of the college as dean of adult education.
“The free high school equivalency, English for speakers of other languages, adult basic education, and college transitions classes we offer here at GTCC through adult education are vital to the success of many adults in our community, serving approximately 3,000 students per year. We look forward to continuing to see these programs grow and help students achieve their personal and professional goals under Dean Blakely’s leadership.”
“My new role as dean of adult education leaves me both humbled and excited,” said Blakely. “I look forward to continuing to support students in earning their high school equivalency diplomas, help them become more proficient in their English-speaking abilities, and assist them in learning a skill or a trade. It is exciting to have the opportunity to make what we do even better, to continue to help make amazing happen in the lives of the students in Guilford County.”
Prior to coming to GTCC in the fall of 2016, Blakely served as the director of basic skills programs at Craven Community College in New Bern for a decade.
Blakey holds a Master of Education in Divergent Learning from Columbia College and a Bachelor of Science in Data Processing Technology from Florida A&M University.
