County Governments and Conservation Nonprofits Encouraged to Apply for Farmland Preservation Grants
Introduction
County governments and conservation nonprofits have until December 18th to apply for farmland preservation grants from the N.C. Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund.
Local Agricultural Growth Zones
This grant funding includes a new opportunity called Local Agricultural Growth Zones (AGZs), which aim to enhance local investments in agricultural conservation easements by applying for matching funds from the state.
Grant Opportunities
Qualifying entities may request up to $2 million per Local AGZs application. Grants are also available for:
- Agricultural conservation easements on working lands used for agricultural production
- Supporting public-private enterprise programs that promote profitable and sustainable agricultural, horticultural, and forestland activities
- Developing agricultural plans
Preserving Farms through Conservation Easements
Landowners interested in preserving their farms through conservation easements must work with county governments or land trusts to apply for grant funds. If awarded a grant that requests funds for the conservation easement purchase value, landowners will be compensated for the purchase of the development rights.
