NILES, Mich. — The 2024 Future Farmers of America Star in Agricultural Production award was presented to Drew George, a student at Niles High School, during the 96th Michigan FFA Convention at the Wharton Center in East Lansing.

Over the past six years, George’s passion for sheep production has flourished. He has nurtured and expanded his flock of registered Southdown sheep, starting with 20 ewes during his freshman year and now overseeing a flock of 45 mature ewes, 10 replacement ewes, and three rams.

Agricultural Communicator Alex Schnabelrauch commended George’s keen eye for livestock selection and diligent pedigree study, which have earned him national recognition in the show ring. George has achieved grand champion titles at prestigious events such as the National Southdown Junior Show and the National Open Show at the North American International Livestock Expo in 2023.

George’s selection for this award followed a comprehensive evaluation process, including an extensive application and balance sheet, farm visit, advisor and administrator interviews, and a personal interview.

Cheryl Rogers, George’s Agricultural Educator and FFA Advisor, praised his leadership and personal skills that make him an outstanding FFA member and sheep producer. Rogers also commended George’s ability to network with other FFA members and sheep producers from across the country. Additionally, George’s dedication to teaching and encouraging younger exhibitors in raising and showing sheep is highly gratifying.
