Arrest Made in Child Sexual Abuse File Sharing Case
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – An 18-year-old has been arrested and is facing four charges related to sharing files depicting child sexual abuse, following a tip received.
Michael Maddox Kilpatrick, a resident of North Charleston, has been charged with four counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, as indicated by jail records.
The arrest was made by investigators from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, affiliated with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday. The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office stated that the arrest was a result of a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which led them to Kilpatrick.
Each count is a felony offense and, if convicted, can lead to a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.
A bond of $10,000 has been set for each count, totaling $40,000, according to jail records. As of Monday afternoon, Kilpatrick remains in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
