Access to Fresh Drinking Water in Murada Region

In a statement released on X, Mahmud Elforjani, Head of Libya’s National Development Authority (NDA), announced that, for the first time, the Murada region will have access to fresh drinking water within the next 120 days through NDA projects.

The arid Murada area has grappled with a lack of potable water access for decades, forcing residents to rely on groundwater or have water trucked in. The NDA water infrastructure project will finally bring a reliable supply of safe drinking water to the region’s population.

As the government body overseeing reconstruction efforts in Sirte and under instructions from the Libyan National Army General Commander Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the NDA is undertaking several major development initiatives. In addition to the Muradah water project, it is supervising the construction of Sirte Gulf International Airport, upgrades to Sirte University facilities, an expansion of Sirte Port, establishment of the Sirte Free Zone, and development of new public parks and gardens.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

  • Goal 15: Life on Land

Providing basic services like clean water to underserved areas is a key priority for stability and economic growth across Libya. The Murada project marks an important milestone in improving the quality of life for residents who have endured hardship accessing this vital resource.
