Securus Technologies, an Aventiv company, is collaborating with Essential Education, a renowned provider of educational resources and programs for adult education, to bridge the digital divide in correctional facilities and expand access to educational opportunities. Through this partnership, Securus will enhance its tablet platform by offering incarcerated individuals free access to premium education and re-entry programming powered by Essential Education. This includes GED prep, HiSET prep, computer competency, financial literacy, and other curriculum to ensure learning opportunities for incarcerated students at all academic levels.

Securus Technologies recognizes the power of technology in providing education and re-entry programming for incarcerated individuals. Through its tablet model, each incarcerated individual can use the Securus Unity tablet to access a comprehensive suite of educational offerings. This includes K-12 programming, high school equivalency prep, post-secondary college degrees, and other development courses to support professional and personal growth.
Enhancing Learning Opportunities with Essential Education
The partnership with Essential Education allows Securus to offer adaptive lessons through handheld tablets, supplementing classroom-specific instruction. Incarcerated individuals will have access to adaptive lessons that help them prepare for high school equivalency tests. This is crucial as 75 percent of incarcerated individuals in America’s state prisons did not complete high school.

A Comprehensive Education Solution
As part of the partnership, Securus’ education and re-entry suite will integrate Essential Education’s acclaimed GED/HiSET Academy, which helps individuals obtain their high school equivalency diplomas. The partnership will also bring forth the Essential Education Workforce Suite, providing a complete education solution including CASAS GOALS Academy
, TABE 11/12 Academy, as well as College, Computer, Work, and Money Essentials courses.

Securus Technologies’ education and re-entry suite already includes a robust learning management system (LMS), self-paced learning content, job search and employment resources, and other essential tools. Partnering with Essential Education further expands Securus’ investment in education, providing a complete tablet-based education solution for incarcerated individuals. Students will be able to access content both in correctional education classrooms and in their living units on tablets.
Essential Education’s suite of educational services is expected to become available for Securus Unity Tablets in fall 2023 and will potentially reach up to 30,000 learners within the first six months.
