StarCare Specialty Health System has recently been awarded two grants, each exceeding $200,000, which the organization intends to utilize for enhancing its services, as announced this week.

On September 20, representatives from the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) participated in a “Big Check” ceremony held in Abilene. During the event, grants were presented to 11 organizations dedicated to assisting veterans and their families.

StarCare’s VetStar Program

StarCare’s VetStar program was among the recipients of these grants. The first grant, amounting to $255,000, is the General Assistance Program Financial Assistance grant. This funding will enable VetStar to provide veterans and surviving spouses with various forms of assistance, including support for mortgage/rent and utility payments, food vouchers, transportation, child/adult care services, funeral costs, assistive technologies, and restorative dental care.

The second grant, totaling $235,000, is the Veterans Mental Health Program Peer Support Services grant. Through this grant, VetStar will be able to offer peer-to-peer services to veterans affected by trauma. Additionally, it will facilitate the training of peer volunteers and assist veterans and their families in identifying and accessing mental health services. The program will also provide referrals to community-based resources that offer health-focused supportive services. Furthermore, it aims to deliver peer-to-peer services to justice-involved veterans who may be impacted by military-related traumas.
