Teacher in Boyd County Arrested for Alleged Rape and Sexual Abuse of Student
BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – A teacher in Boyd County is facing charges of alleged rape and sexual abuse of a student, according to the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department.
Investigation and Arrest
Michael D. Spears, 45, was arrested on Friday and is now facing two counts of third-degree rape and one count of sexual abuse.
A joint investigation was conducted by the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department and the Boyd County School System regarding the alleged sexual misconduct between Spears and a student.
During the investigation, a search warrant was executed at Spears’ home, resulting in the seizure of multiple cell phones, computers, and a thumb drive.
Employment and Cooperation
Spears has been employed with the Boyd County School System for approximately 20 years and currently works at Boyd County High School.
Boyd County Superintendent Bill Boblett released a statement to WSAZ, stating:
“Boyd County Public Schools are in communication with the sheriff’s office and cooperating with the investigation by the sheriff’s office.”
Legal Proceedings
Spears is currently in jail at the Boyd County Detention Center.
