A New Water Supply System Inaugurated in Tajikistan’s Rudaki District

A new water supply system has been inaugurated in the village of Rohati, located in Tajikistan’s Rudaki District. This system will provide safe drinking water for more than 3,000 people across 455 households.

Supported by USAID and Public-Private Partnerships

This project is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is part of a larger initiative to rehabilitate water supply systems in Tajikistan. In total, 12 communities have benefited from these public-private partnerships.

Ensuring Sustainability through Business Planning and Technology

To ensure the long-term sustainability of the water supply system in Rohati, USAID has worked with the village’s private water operator. They have helped develop a sound business plan for the water system, introduced electronic billing, and assisted with the installation of water meters in households.

Emphasizing the Importance of Safe Drinking Water

During the opening ceremony on April 12, USAID Tajikistan Mission Director Peter Riley highlighted the significance of safe drinking water. He stated, “The U.S. Government believes that everyone has the right to safe drinking water. USAID strives to increase access to safe drinking water across all regions of Tajikistan. Access to safe drinking water is of critical importance to protecting public health, dignity, equity, and our environment, and USAID is committed to that goal.”

USAID’s Impact on Safe Drinking Water in Tajikistan

Over the past five years, USAID has rehabilitated and constructed 30 drinking water supply systems throughout Tajikistan. These efforts have provided safe drinking water to more than 100,000 people in the country.
