Agricultural Development Trust in Baramati to introduce a course on Artificial Intelligence in the farming sector

Former Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar announces introduction of Artificial Intelligence course in farming sector

The Agricultural Development Trust (ADT) in Baramati, under the leadership of former Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, has announced plans to introduce a course on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the farming sector. The course, titled “Artificial Intelligence for Agriculture Technology and Climate Change,” has been developed by Oxford University with the aim of helping farmers improve crop management, forecast droughts, manage pests and diseases, and address other farming challenges.

Collaboration with Oxford University and Microsoft

Sharad Pawar stated, “The course will be introduced in ADT from January next year. Oxford University and Microsoft will cooperate with the trust to run the course. The use of AI in the farming sector will be a game changer for the Indian farming community.”

Benefits of AI integration in farming

Experts believe that the integration of AI in farming will significantly benefit the farming community by increasing yield without incurring extra costs. Ajit Jaokar, the course director at Oxford University, emphasized the practical application of technology at the ground level and its maximum impact on helping farmers. He said, “Besides academics, we will also demonstrate the practical use of technology through this course. Therefore, we have decided to collaborate with the Agricultural Development Trust.”
