Introduction

A pair was arrested in Horry County after police said a child, who lived with them, suffered life-threatening abuse.

Ivy Contrell Lee Jenerette is charged with abuse to inflict great bodily injury upon a child. Samantha Ann Gaymes is charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk or causing harm or willfully abandoning the child.

Incident Details

On May 8, an officer with Horry County Police Dept. responded to a home on Pint Circle in the Longs area to assist Horry County Fire Rescue with an incident. When the officer arrived at the residence, EMS was placing the victim in an ambulance, according to an incident report.

According to arrest warrants, Jenerette struck the child several times in the head with a blunt object. Warrants said that by Gaynes “allowing the abuse,” she placed the child at unreasonable risk of harm.

The victim suffered several life-threatening injuries during the assault, reports said.

According to online booking records, Jenerette and Gaymes are both still incarcerated at the J Reuben Long Detention Center.
