Kazakhstan Considers Attracting Chinese Investors for Agricultural Development

(MENAFN– Trend News Agency) ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 12.

Introduction

Kazakhstan is considering the possibility of attracting Chinese investors for the development of agriculture in the country, according to the Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Integration, Serik Zhumangarin. Zhumangarin announced his planned visit to Shenzhen, Jinan, Beijing, and Urumqi to study China’s experience in agricultural development.

Goal of the Visit

The primary goal of Zhumangarin’s visit is to attract investors for the agricultural development of Kazakhstan. He believes that China’s valuable expertise in water conservation technologies could greatly benefit Kazakhstan in terms of more efficient water resource utilization in agriculture.

Water Conservation Efforts

Zhumangarin emphasized that Kazakhstan has sufficient water resources but lacks sufficient efforts for its preservation. To address this, a roadmap project has been developed under the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture for the efficient use of water in agriculture from 2023 to 2026. The project includes various measures such as creating reservoirs for collecting and storing meltwater, reconstructing and modernizing interstate channels, improving the system for accounting water from neighboring countries, implementing state support measures, diversifying cultivation areas, adopting modern water accounting systems and water-saving technologies.

Chinese Investments in Kazakhstan

Since 2005, Chinese investments in Kazakhstan have reached $23.2 billion, making China the fourth largest investor in the Kazakh economy after the Netherlands, the US, and Switzerland.
