MANILA, Philippines — Gotianun-led Filinvest Development Corp. (FDC) has partnered with FDC Utilities Inc. and Japan’s Hitachi Ltd. to construct smart city water solutions in Filinvest City. The aim is to innovate urban water management in the Alabang business district, while aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Construction of State-of-the-Art Water Recycling Facility and Upgraded Sewage Treatment Plant

  1. FDC, through its subsidiary FDC Water Utilities Inc. (FDCWUI), will lead the development of the project.
  2. The construction of a state-of-the-art water recycling facility and upgraded sewage treatment plant (STP) will commence in December.
  3. The project is expected to be completed by March 2026.

Advancing Sustainable and Smart Central Business District

  • FDC’s vision is to make Filinvest City the first sustainable and smart central business district in the Philippines.
  • By implementing advanced technologies and solutions for wastewater treatment, FDC aims to protect local ecosystems and reduce its ecological footprint.

Enhanced Sewage Treatment Plant

The upgraded STP will have a processing capacity of up to 15 million liters of wastewater daily.

It will utilize membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology for biological nutrient removal, complying with stricter regulations on nitrogen and phosphorus removal in the country.

Water Reuse Facility for High-Quality Recycled Water

The new water reuse facility is designed to efficiently produce high-quality recycled water for household use.

It has a capacity of at least 10.5 million liters per day and utilizes a combination of Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) and Advanced Oxidation for water production.

Revolutionizing Wastewater Treatment and Water Production

The project sets a new standard for environmentally responsible development by seamlessly integrating sewage treatment and high-quality recycled water production technologies.

FDWUI president and CEO Juan Eugenio Roxas stated that only two other projects in the country implement similar processes, but none on this scale.

Addressing Water Shortages and Promoting Water Sustainability

Okito Kakudo, general manager of Hitachi Ltd.’s Environmental Solution Division, Water and Environment Business Unit, emphasized that the project with FDC will help address the pressing issue of water shortages in the Philippines and promote water sustainability.

Hitachi’s advanced water treatment technology, combined with digital solutions, aims to improve water quality, enable remote plant monitoring, and streamline operations.

Commitment to Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility

FDC’s smart city water solution reflects the Filinvest Group’s commitment to sustainability through efficient and technology-driven water operations across all its developments.

The initiative will reduce the environmental footprint of Filinvest City and effectively mitigate pollution in waterways.

Furthermore, the water produced by the reuse facility will be available to local businesses and residents, conserving valuable freshwater sources and ensuring a more reliable supply of clean water.
