An Education Has No Age Limit
This program is available to adults all over the state.
Introduction
An education has no age limit. That is the message a Lexington school is trying to spread as they give adults a second chance at an education.
Opening Doors and Avenues
“A lot of times they come to us really down and out because they feel like they have no other options in their lives and so getting a secondary credential such as a high school diploma or GED just opens so many doors and avenues for them,” Director of Adult Education Christy Henderson said.
The Lexington Two and Four Adult Education Program
Henderson is the director of the adult education program for Lexington District Two and Four. The Lexington Two and Four Adult Education Program is available to adults all over the state.
Assessment and Class Options
“Just call our main office and we will set an appointment up for them to take the basic skills assessment and then an intake counselor will work with that student, go over the scores, look at the class options for them and kind of find a best fit for them,” Henderson said.
Next Steps After Graduation
The school also has a college career navigator to help students figure out next steps after graduation.
A Starting Port
“We tell our students this is not the finishing line, this is the starting port for them to go into whatever is next for that student,” Henderson said.
Flexible Class Schedule
School officials say math, science, social studies, and reading classes are offered all throughout the day to accommodate for students’ work and life schedules. English second language classes are also offered to students who may need it.
Overcoming Hurdles
“I always tell them that the first step is the hardest. If you can make an appointment and show up, that’s getting over the biggest hurdle is just making that appointment and showing up for that appointment. Everything else seems to come fairly easy because the staff here is really easy to work with and we try to assist students in whatever ways we can,” Henderson said.
Enrollment and Registration
The adult education program tells says enrollment for classes is always open before heading into the summer months. Adults looking to start the process must pay a one-time registration fee of $25 before they can begin their classes.
