Pulaski County Receives Additional $500,000 in Tobacco Settlement Funds

Introduction

Pulaski County has been granted an additional $500,000 in tobacco settlement funds through the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund. This report was presented to Representative David Meade and other lawmakers during the June meeting of the legislature’s Tobacco Settlement Oversight Committee.

Funding for County Agricultural Investment Program

The funding has been specifically approved by the Kentucky Agriculture Development Board (KADB) for the County Agricultural Investment Program. This program aims to support and develop the agriculture industry in Pulaski County.

Statement from Representative David Meade

Representative David Meade expressed his pleasure in announcing the additional funding for Pulaski County’s agriculture industry. He commended the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board and the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund for their dedication to the growth of the agricultural sector in his district and community. Representative Meade has high hopes for the positive impact these funds will bring to Pulaski County.

Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement Fund

This funding is derived from the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement fund, which was established in 1998 through an accord between four major tobacco product manufacturers and 46 states. The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board was created by legislators to manage and allocate funds from the settlement. During the 2021 Regular Session, the KADB was moved to the Department of Agriculture to better fulfill its mission.
