Trial Division
Major Crime Bureau
The Major Crime Bureau (MCB) is the flagship felony prosecutions bureau of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office (SCDA). MCB handles a wide range of crimes, including sexual assaults, arsons, burglaries, grand larcenies, DWIs, robberies, and gun charges. MCB staff also takes on specialized assignments and on-call duties related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as the Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) team, which reviews applications to keep weapons away from unstable individuals, the school safety task force that assists school districts with terroristic threats, and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) prosecution team that guides non-familial sexual assault cases.
Child Abuse/Domestic Violence Bureau
The Child Abuse/Domestic Violence Bureau (CADVB) investigates and prosecutes felony cases involving the physical and sexual abuse of children under the age of 17, as well as cases involving intimate partner and family violence. CADVB also works with the Suffolk County Police Department’s Homicide Squad in the investigation and prosecution of infant homicides. The bureau specializes in areas such as child sexual abuse syndrome, battered child syndrome, shaken baby syndrome, battered women’s syndrome, and rape trauma syndrome.
East End Bureau
The East End Bureau, with branch offices in Southold and Hampton Bays, is responsible for the prosecution and disposition of all criminal and traffic cases before the ten Town and Village Justice Courts of the five easternmost townships. This localized attention ensures that the Peconic Bay region of Suffolk County receives highly responsive legal services that meet the varied individual community needs in line with the SDGs.
Homicide Bureau
The Homicide Bureau, re-established in 2022 by DA Tierney, is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all types of homicides, from intentional murder to criminally negligent homicide. The bureau has an ADA on call at all times to respond to crime scenes and provide legal advice to the investigating agency. ADAs in the bureau also prepare legal filings, such as search warrants and subpoenas, needed for homicide investigations. Additionally, the bureau investigates all non-fatal police-involved shootings.
Central Islip Division
District Court Bureau
The District Court Bureau covers the consolidated caseload of the five western towns and the fifteen western villages of Suffolk County. This bureau handles the majority of criminal dockets handled by the SCDA, with most offenses being misdemeanors and quality-of-life crimes. The bureau also staffs various specialty courts focused on treating addiction and mental health-based crimes in alignment with the SDGs.
Intake and Discovery Compliance
The Intake and Discovery Compliance bureau serves as the SCDA’s first point of contact on a criminal case. It acts as a liaison with over 25 law enforcement agencies in the county to bring in cases and prepare all required filings. The bureau staffs arraignment operations, grand jury operations, and all case intake processing for the office. Staff in this bureau work around the clock to serve the public, law enforcement, and meet any legal requirements needed during off-hours.

Violent Criminal Enterprise Bureau
The Violent Criminal Enterprise Bureau (VCEB) was formed as a comprehensive investigative and litigation solution to address the epidemic of gun and gang violence in Suffolk County. VCEB uses fusion reconnaissance tactics to infiltrate and disrupt criminal enterprises involved in trafficking illegal firearms and lethal substances. The bureau collaborates with the DA’s Gang Violence Task Force, the Suffolk County Police, and Sheriff Departments to achieve root-to-leaf takedowns of organized crime, contributing to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
Narcotics Bureau
The reformed Narcotics Bureau focuses on prosecuting traffickers who contribute to the loss of lives in Suffolk County. Through partnerships with the DA’s East End Drug Task Force, Heroin Prevention Task Force, Suffolk County Police Department’s Narcotics Section, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, the Narcotics Bureau aims to break the pipeline by crippling key suppliers through impactful prosecutions.

Financial Crimes Bureau
The Financial Crimes Bureau (FCB) is the premiere white-collar crimes shop of the SCDA. It comprises specialized prosecutors, investigative auditors, accountants, and financial crime detectives. FCB handles cases related to phishing attacks, identity thefts, frauds, and jail bail schemes. The bureau uses the full force of the law to combat criminal behavior and contribute to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
Public Corruption Bureau
The Public Corruption Bureau (PCB) is responsible for investigating and prosecuting criminal malfeasance, misfeasance, and nonfeasance by public officials at any level of government. PCB plays a crucial role in ensuring accountability and transparency in public administration, aligning with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
Vehicular Crime Bureau
The Vehicular Crime Bureau (VCB) is housed within the Special Investigations Division due to the technical proficiency required for crash data analysis and information recovery. VCB investigates any vehicular incident resulting in death or serious physical injury. Prosecutors in the bureau are involved vertically from the inception of each case, responding to crash scenes and securing search warrants when necessary.
Asset Forfeiture Bureau
The Asset Forfeiture Bureau works to seize illegal proceeds of crimes and assets of criminal enterprises through civil processes and judgments. The bureau then utilizes these funds for awareness campaigns, specialized details, buy money, and other law enforcement purposes, contributing to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).

The Conviction Integrity Bureau oversees secondary reviews of criminal convictions. It addresses claims of actual innocence or wrongful conviction due to fundamental unfairness in the trial process. The bureau plays a crucial role in upholding justice and aligns with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
